Alaska Trip Fairbanks Riverboat Tour
These are pictures we took while on the Fairbanks Riverboat tour. We traveled on the Discovery III down river past some wonderful riverfront homes, past the Susan Butcher Iditarod Dog Kennel, to a replica native Alaskan Indian village, and had a talk by a local pilot who spoke of their active role in recuse as well as transportation and supply runs to remote areas. One of several ways to get from point to point where roads don't exist. Alaska has only 31,618 miles of roads, see Miles by State. This tour was packed with fun. We started at the dock where their store is and had lunch. Then on the paddle boat to go down river. We cruised past some wonderful log style homes right at the water front, talked with the pilot of a small plane that explained the small or bush pilot's roll, saw an example of fish being prepared for the smokehouse, some tame Caribou losing their winter coats, a replica of a native Alaskan village, and a showing of some traditional native Indian clothing. This is a great way to end an Alaskan trip that is relaxing, educating, and did I mention the blueberry doughnuts? They were great and no one was counting, I think. A great ending to a very wonderful trip. Ask me if I think you should go, you already know the answer. While two weeks is a long time for me to be away from home and the first time we've left our dog, Canine Concierge, it was a lot in a short period of time. There would be plenty to do if we did this trip again but that will have to wait till we knock off a few other designations.
